Gunsite and Thomas Sands / Archer County Regulars Minimize

Archer County lies in the north-central Texas oil belt about midway between the eastern and western boundaries of the state and a short distance south of Red River. It is bounded on the north by Wichita County and on the south by Young County, both of which are important producers of oil, coming largely from the same sand and under conditions similar to those in Archer County. Clay County lies on the east and Baylor County on the west. Archer County's center is at 98°30' west longitude and 35°30' north latitude.

Oil was discovered in Archer County in 1911, and by 1930 the county was a major shallow producer. The production in 1940 was 4,124,500 barrels, and World War II helped to stimulate oil activity further; in 1944 more than 8,162,000 barrels were produced, and almost 12,000,000 barrels in 1950. By January 1, 2001, more than 489,066,000 barrels of oil had been taken out of Archer County lands since 1911.

In some places the regular Gunsight horizon is represented by a porous limestone which produces in several areas. In such places the upper foot or two of the limestone is hard and unsaturated, but immediately below it is softer and porous. This area is saturated limestone has been found commercially productive. Archer County showings have been encountered and individual wells have produced from this limy phase of the Gunsight horizon.

The Thomas sands are also represented in the wells drilled in Archer County. The depth of the Thomas sands is located at approximately 1200' while the Gunsite sands are located at approximately 1400' to 1500'.

Many of the early wells produced in Archer County were vertical wells developed using very archaic technology. With today's advances in imaging techniques engineers can get a much more detailed picture of both the Thomas and Gunsite sands, which enable utilization of completion methods in specific oil rich zones. Many of the areas developed prior to the 1980's lacked the modern methods to take full advantage of the oil reserves that are present.

Acorn Energy use modern completion techniques. By surrounding themselvs with the best experts the industry has to offer, Acorn Energy can offset known producing wells and extract large amounts of oil from these virtually untouched reserves.
